Short answer: Mounjaro® (tirzepatide, made by Eli Lilly and Company) is a prescription-only medicine in the UK. You can get it on the NHS if you meet the eligibility criteria, or privately through a prescriber or a GPhC-registered online pharmacy. Privately, it was advertised from £148 to £339 a month by the UK pharmacies we checked on 1 October 2026.

What Mounjaro costs privately in the UK

Private prices depend on the pharmacy and on the pen the prescriber decides on. These are the monthly prices each pharmacy advertised on its own website on the date we checked. We earn nothing from any of them.

Why Mounjaro got more expensive

Eli Lilly raised the UK list price of Mounjaro by up to 170% from 1 September 2025. The increase hit private prescriptions; medicine supplied through the NHS was not affected. That is why private prices today sit well above what many people paid in early 2025, and why the gap between the NHS route and the private route is now so large.

Mounjaro on the NHS

NICE recommends tirzepatide for weight management (technology appraisal TA1026) for adults with a BMI of at least 35 and at least one weight-related health condition, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity. Because so many people qualify, NHS England is rolling access out in phases, starting with people who have the highest clinical need. For type 2 diabetes, Mounjaro is prescribed under separate NICE guidance.

On the NHS you pay the standard prescription charge — £9.90 per item in England, nothing in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. Your GP is the first conversation either way: they can tell you whether you meet the criteria and how the phased rollout works where you live.

Fake Mounjaro pens

In February 2026 the MHRA reported falsified Mounjaro pens found in the UK supply chain, supplied through an online pharmacy. Illegal sellers also offer “tirzepatide” without a prescription on social media and messaging apps. A genuine pen only comes from a UK-registered pharmacy against a prescription. Before you pay anyone, check the pharmacy on the General Pharmaceutical Council’s public register and read how to spot an illegitimate seller.

Mounjaro, Wegovy and Ozempic

Mounjaro is tirzepatide and acts on two gut-hormone pathways; Wegovy® and Ozempic® are both semaglutide, made by Novo Nordisk A/S. Wegovy is the semaglutide licensed for weight management, while Ozempic is licensed for type 2 diabetes. Which one, if any, is right for you is a decision for the prescriber assessing you. See Wegovy in the UK for its prices and NHS criteria.

Common questions

How much is Mounjaro in the UK?

Privately, UK online pharmacies advertised Mounjaro from £148 to £339 a month on 1 October 2026, depending on the pharmacy and the pen the prescriber decides on. On the NHS you pay the standard prescription charge: £9.90 per item in England, free in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Can I get Mounjaro on the NHS?

Possibly. NICE recommends tirzepatide for weight management for adults with a BMI of at least 35 and at least one weight-related condition, and NHS England is rolling access out in phases, starting with people with the highest clinical need. Ask your GP whether you qualify.

Can I buy Mounjaro without a prescription in the UK?

No. Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine. Any seller offering it, or ‘tirzepatide’, without a prescription is operating outside UK medicines regulation, and the MHRA has found falsified pens in circulation.
